HOW ZENDRAWN WORKS

The Zendrawn Mindful Drawing Hub is a digital resource library that provides schools with unlimited access to downloadable mindful drawing activities throughout the year.

Rather than focusing on artistic ability, Zendrawn encourages pupils to slow down, concentrate and experience the calming process of drawing.

Using carefully designed greyscale templates, pupils simply trace over the existing lines before adding their own creative patterns and colours.

No previous art experience is needed.

The Zendrawn Process

Each activity follows a simple mindful drawing journey.

Step 1

Download

Choose a design from the Mindful Drawing Hub.

Print as many copies as required.

Step 2

Observe

Take a moment to look at the image.

Notice the flowing lines, shapes and spaces.

There is no right or wrong way to complete the activity.

Step 3

Trace

Using a fine liner, pen or pencil, slowly trace over the existing greyscale lines.

This encourages:

  • Slower movements

  • Improved concentration

  • Hand control

  • Mindfulness through repetition

Step 4

Add Pattern

Once the outline has been traced, fill the remaining spaces using simple repeated patterns such as:

  • Lines

  • Dots

  • Spirals

  • Curves

  • Waves

  • Shapes

  • Cross hatching

Each person creates something completely unique.

Step 5

Add Colour (Optional)

Use:

  • Coloured pencils

  • Felt tips

  • Gel pens

  • Paint pens

  • Watercolour (where appropriate)

Or leave the artwork in black and white.

Step 6

Reflect

Take a moment to notice:

  • How you feel

  • What patterns you enjoyed

  • Which parts required the most concentration

The aim is the experience—not perfection.

Why Greyscale?

The greyscale image acts as a gentle guide.

Instead of worrying about what to draw, pupils can focus entirely on:

  • Slowing down

  • Following the lines

  • Exploring patterns

  • Being creative without pressure

This makes the activity accessible to all abilities.

Our Philosophy

At Zendrawn, we believe creativity doesn't have to begin with a blank page.

Sometimes all we need is a gentle starting point.

By tracing, observing, repeating patterns and slowing down, pupils can experience a creative process that supports focus, confidence, wellbeing and self-expression—one mindful line at a time.
